Are you age 40 or younger? And are you a member of AFCEA? Congratulations - you’re automatically a Young AFCEAn! 


Did you know that means you also qualify for unique benefits? It’s true! AFCEA’s vision is to promote a culture of excellence, professionalism and competence among young professionals in government, defense and private industry careers -- with a special emphasis on those in the intelligence, information technology, electronics and communications career fields. So you, the young professional, have many reasons to join -- including scholarships available only to Young AFCEAns, continuing education offerings, and opportunities for mentorship and professional growth.


More than 65% of professionals find their next opportunity through networking. So having access to a network of 30,000 professionals, including senior leaders in the communications and electronics realm, couldn’t hurt your career, right?

The Alamo AFCEA chapter is committed to championing the ongoing professional development of our members. We’re building a collaborative environment for Young AFCEAns to explore and discover their potential, and encouraging them to seek out challenging experiences, training and education. And we’re not in this alone: The Alamo chapter collaborates with dozens of chapters around the globe, giving you even more opportunities to learn and grow.

Over the past two years, Young AFCEA launched several new initiatives including:

  • Business 2 Breakfast Panel Discussions - on hot topics, examined from industry and military points of view
  • Mentor-Protege Night - bringing you one-on-one guidance from someone who’s been there before

  • Brown Bag Lunches and Webinars - offering professional development and training. CEU credits attach!

  • Industry Tours - giving you an insider’s look at the work being done at top organizations like USAA, Rackspace, the Southwest Research Institute and Dell

Announcing a New YAC Award Category

Tell us something about an outstanding 40-or-younger professional that you know! It's the season for Young AFCEAN award nominations, and we're pleased to announce a NEW award this year: the Alamo Young AFCEA Technical Innovation Award!

This is a person who is considered a rising star by peers, colleagues and/or supervisors, and who has made significant contributions in IT through innovations or applications that advance their agency, department and/or organization's mission, or that benefit the public at large. Nominees must be Alamo AFCEA members who are 40 or younger.

Submissions for the Technical Innovation Award are due by Oct. 31.  Awards will be presented to two winners at the 2016 Mentor-Protege Night in December. Winners will also receive credit for a Professional Development Course.
