Enlisted Education Grants
The Alamo Chapter’s Enlisted Education Grant Program is offering grants to help offset the cost of books and fees not covered by the military tuition assistance program.

These grants will be awarded to enlisted members pursuing a degree in a scientific field of study.  These fields include, but are not limited to: engineering, computer science, information systems, chemistry, physics, and math.

Science Teaching Tools Award
This program is intended to promote effective science teaching and to enhance the abilities of capable teachers in secondary schools in the San Antonio metropolitan area.  The awards are to be used by the teacher to purchase consumable supplies for science experiments and activities in the classroom.

Primary consideration is given to teachers working in schools, which are poorly supported, and/or with economically disadvantaged students.  Awards are not limited to public schools.

To apply for this award the teacher must include a proposal or concept paper describing how the funds will be used to enhance the learning experience of the students.  There is no specific format for the proposal but it should contain paragraphs providing a general description of the project(s) to be funded, the lessons to be learned, and a list of the consumables to be purchased.  Recommend this proposal be limited to no more than two pages.  In addition, background on the school and the teacher will aid the scholarship committee in making its selections.

San Antonio BEST
The SA BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology) competition is a contest held annually to inspire and interest high school students in the fields of science and engineering. With guidance from adult mentors, local teams of students design and build a remote controlled machine to accomplish a specific task. The students are given a box of raw materials from which to build the machine and 6 weeks to design and construct it. The task of the robot is kept secret until Kick-off Day, when all the teams are told what the robot is required to do. On Competition Day, all schools will compete head-on with each other in a thrilling science-fair-turned-sports-event. Several teams advance to the regional Texas BEST competition and compete with the BEST robots from other areas.
