AFCEA Alamo Chapter

Young AFCEAN Current Events

The Young AFCEAN committee of the Alamo Chapter of AFCEA is gathering volunteers for the Texas Science and Engineering Fair. The Texas Science and Engineering Fair will be jointly sponsored by UTSA and ExxonMobil on Friday, April 6, 2007, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in downtown San Antonio. Please consider volunteer service as a judge for the Fair. Judging will take place on the 6th and the Awards Ceremony, to which judges are invited, takes place on April 7.

As you are aware, international comparisons of student achievements in mathematics and science indicate that our students fall short. Yet, wonderful research is going on in our schools. Come and see for yourself at the Texas Science and Engineering Fair. You will be impressed by the stellar achievements of our state's middle and high school students who have previously won awards in local and regional science and engineering fairs.

The number of entries has grown to a record high: 1500 contestant entries are expected. There is a need for approximately 450 judges for 19 categories.

An advanced degree or several years of experience in the discipline for which you are judging is required to qualify as a judge in the high school division. A Bachelor's degree is recommended for judges in the middle school division. Online training will be offered to help prepare judges.
