Scholarship winners will be notified by approx 16 Oct and will be honored at appropriate presentation opportunities.
San Antonio BEST
The SA BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology) competition is a contest held annually to inspire and interest high school students in the fields of science and engineering. With guidance from adult mentors, local teams of students design and build a remote controlled machine to accomplish a specific task. The students are given a box of raw materials from which to build the machine and 6 weeks to design and construct it. The task of the robot is kept secret until Kick-off Day, when all the teams are told what the robot is required to do. On Competition Day, all schools will compete head-on with each other in a thrilling science-fair-turned-sports-event. Several teams advance to the regional Texas BEST competition and compete with the BEST robots from other areas.
The Alamo Chapter of AFCEA offers up to six $500 scholarships annually to the SA BEST competition 1st place winning team graduating seniors. Additionally, the Alamo Chapter offers up to four $500 scholarships annually to graduating seniors of the team receiving 1st place in the Annual BEST Award.

AFCEA Education Scholarships for Teaching STEM - New Scholarship Opportunity!
In an effort to better prepare the next generation of America’s teachers, AFCEA International and the AFCEA Educational Foundation are excited to announce the launch of the AFCEA Education Scholarships for Teaching STEM. Beginning in 2010, AFCEA International will grant the AFCEA Educational Foundation an annual award of $200,000 to enable the Foundation to award 35 scholarships of $5,000 each per year.
Students eligible to compete for AFCEA STEM must be U.S. citizens attending an accredited college or university in the U.S. and majoring in Education for the purpose of teaching a STEM subject in a U.S. middle or secondary school. Additionally, nominees must be enrolled full time and hold a minimum grade point average of 3.0.
In addition to the Scholarship, each graduating AFCEA STEM Scholar will receive a $1,000 AFCEA Science Teaching Tool (STT) grant each year for three years, provided they remain teaching a STEM subject.
